Gr 8 Up{amp}ndash;Twins Ellery and Ezra are traveling to Echo Ridge for the first time. Ellery, a passionate true-crime buff, knows all about the town's unpleasant history{amp}mdash;their aunt disappeared there at age 17, and just five years ago, the high school homecoming queen was murdered. Not long after, the teens settle in and land jobs at Fright Farm, the Halloween theme park where the slain homecoming queen was found. Soon, threats against the homecoming court begin popping up anew, and then another girl goes missing from Echo Ridge. Ellery becomes a target, as well. The story is told in alternating chapters by Ellery and Malcolm, whose brother was implicated in the murder of the homecoming queen; however, neither Ellery, Malcolm, nor any of the work's supporting characters are fully fleshed out. The three separate mysteries in Echo Ridge can be overwhelming to keep track of at times. While the character building may be lacking, and the story line may occasionally confuse, the history of Echo Ridge does intertwine nicely with Ellery's own family history and moves the plot along. What little romance is included serves to further the plot. Every character will be a suspect at least once, and when the mystery finally unravels, readers may not grasp the full repercussions of the conclusion for a long time. VERDICT For readers who have outgrown "Fear Street" and are looking for a similar sort of tension, mystery, and murder.{amp}mdash;Maggie Mason Smith, Clemson University, SC More Praise for Two Can Keep a Secret:"It’s even better than what came before: more exciting, with richer characters and a stronger final-act twist. . . . The New York Times bestselling "must-read YA thriller" (Bustle) from the author of One of Us Is Lying!
Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery's never been there, but she's heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.
The town is picture-perfect, but it's hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone has declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.
Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she's in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous--and most people aren't good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it's safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

4 Fangs! One of Us is Lying was one of my favorite books from 2017. It was a no-brainer to buy Two Can Keep a Secret as soon as I got the chance.I've been in a huge reading slump and Two Can Keep a Secret was able to pull me out of it for which I'm very grateful for.Echo Ridge is a town full of secrets and known for the disappearance of two beautiful teenagers. Let me give you a little background on the main characters. After their mother, Sadie, is sent to rehab for crashing her car into a tree, the twins, Ellery and Ezra will have to leave California and move in with their grandmother who lives in Echo Ridge. Ellery has always been drawn to true crime stories after Sadie's twin sister, Sarah disappeared as a teenager and was never found. Ellery believes the person who took Sarah might still be out there.Next, five years earlier, the prom queen, Lacey Kilduff, was found murdered. Her boyfriend Declan was a person of interest and because of the way the town treated him, his father walked out on his family and Declan moved to another town nearby. This left Malcolm (Declan's younger sibling) and his mother by themselves until Peter, a successful attorney married his mother. Now Malcolm is living with Peter and his daughter, Katrin, who's Malcolm classmate. They are civil to each other but they don't like each other. When the life of another teenager is on the line, Malcolm, Ellery, Ezra, and Mia will join forces to keep the people they care about safe. Two Can Keep a Secret had a good narrative. I was interested in the characters and their fate. I was sure the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the two young women was related yet I can honestly say that I didn't guess who the culprit was until the very end.The last line of the book is also a winner. What a great way to close the story!Cliffhanger: No4/5 FangsNearly perfect mystery Ellery and her twin Ezra move from Hollywood to Vermont after their mother winds up in rehab. Living with the grandmother they hardly know in a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business would be enough of a shock, if she didn’t become embroiled in a decades old disappearance.Malcolm is no strange to drama. His brother, the main suspect in a murder five years ago, makes Malcolm persona non grata, and a suspect when another girl goes missing.Karen McManus’s sophomore effort exceeds her wildly popular debut ONE OF US IS LYING. From the first page of TWO CAN KEEP A SECRET, I was pulled into Ellery and her story. I thought about cancelling my day’s plans so I could read nonstop. As a true crime buff, I identified with Ellery. Like her, I can become obsessed with the details of an investigation or other interest, and I’m sure others don’t always understand. Ellery is much braver than me. Malcolm was also an interesting character as were the minor characters.I don’t want to say too much about the plot, but rest assured McManus crosses all her Ts and dotted all her Is when it comes to little and big details. The red herrings were real possibilities for culprits and just because people might not have been the murderer doesn’t mean they were decent or innocent of everything.TWO CAN KEEP A SECRET is a must add for every mystery and psychological thriller lover.3.5 Stars I went into this book with high hopes because Karen is my favorite YA-Mystery writer. With that being said, I enjoyed parts of this book. The small town theme is something I liked and the homecoming theme. The characters were pretty good for the most part. Now, I felt as if this book fell a bit flat for me. The main character Ellery, was interesting at first but became a little annoying with the Junie B. Jones act. There were so many useless characters that I got confused and had to start over and write them all down for clarity. Also, there were a lot of side stories to build up the mystery element, but if anything it just made the book more of a task to read than enjoyable. The ending was short lived and I was disappointed with it because I figured it out early in the first chapter.Long story short, clear your expectations and just enjoy the twisty ride.3.5 stars, looking forward to the OOUIL sequel. Karen’s still my favorite YA-Mystery writer, I have faith in her!
